Stephenson IL Daniel Zimmerman born Lycoming Co. Penn., Jan, 27, 1819 removed to Stephenson Co. Ill. in the fall of 1846; has a fine farm of 200 acres, under good cultivation with neat, roomy and convenient buildings, etc. Has held school offices in his township. Is a member of the Reformed Church. In politics, is Democratic. He was married, in 1843, to Miss Harriet Phifley, a native of Wittenberg, Germany; she was born Jan. 24, 1821; came to America when 11 years of age; died Aug. 24, 1874; the children are Christiana, now Mrs. L. H. Weaver, of Montgomery Co., Iowa'; Daniel M.; John F., of Montgomery Co., Iowa; Catherine Elizabeth, now Mrs. Wilson T. Walker, and William Emanuel. obit for Daniel Zimmerman 3 Aug 1897 After an illness of several weeks, preceded by several years of feeble health, Daniel Zimmerman died last Tuesday morning at the home of his son, D.M. Zimmerman in Red Oak. he was born in Lycoming Cty, PA Jan 27 1819, being in his 70th year. in 1846 he moved form Pennsylvania to Stephenson County Illinois where he farmed for 36 years, coming to Montgomery County Iowa in 1882. He was married in Pennsylvania in 1834 and left a widower in 1879. To them were born five children, Mrs. ?.H. Wonver of Frankfort township, D.M. Zimmerman of this city, J.F. and W.E. Zimmerman living northwest of Red Oak in this township, and Mrs. W.T. Walker living in Stephenson County Illinois. Mr.. Zimmerman was married a second time in 1882 to Mrs. J.M. Hewitt who survives him. He was a man of kindly disposition and before over taken with old age and weakness was a man of much force of character noted for his honesty and sterling worth. in Illinois he served for many years in various township and school offices and at the time of his death still holds his membership in the Reformed Church to which he was attached in Illinois. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon 2 o'clock from the home of his son D.M. Zimmerman, on fifth and Valley conducted by Rev. H.McNinch ad Rev. J.S. Wright and Union Lodge No. 176 I.O.O.F., of which he was a member. Burial was made in the church cemetery. |
