Note

After the hurricane in 1926, Catherine was without anything other then her bed clothes to wea r. The Red Cross provided her with a blue knit dress. Her sister hated the dress so much that she never in her entire life would wear a blue knit dress.

Attended St Mary's School and Freeport HS graduating in 1942. She was called out of class and the parish priest told her of her mother's death.

1942 - In Freeport IL with sister Jeanne at a movie. After the movie, when they went outside, they heard of the attack at Pearl Harbor.

First worked for as a telephone operator then WT Rawleigh in Freeport , Lewis Jeson and Author Insurance - Janesville, Adams Gas and then got her Real Estate Liscense.

Retired numerous times. She loved to work, do needle point and sew. She loved animals. Her dog as a child was Betty, a boxer. When Betty have birth, Catherine was the first to see the pups. She told her mother that Betty was being eaten by rats. Once she found out they were puppies, she named them Franklin and Elenore after the President and First Lady. Both puppies lived for a short time.

JANESVILLE -- Catherine A. Coplien, age 80, of 2131 Green Valley Dr., died Sun., Feb. 13, 2005, at the Monroe Manor. She was born in Tachoma Park, MD, on Nov. 13, 1924, the daughter of John and Helen ‎‎(Howard)‎‎ Donker and was a 1949 graduate of Freeport, IL, High School. Catherine first worked for WT Rawleigh Co, Freeport. She married Ralph O. Coplien on Feb. 5, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1999. Catherine moved to Janesville in 1949‎(was actually 1942)‎, and first worked for the law firm ‎(was an insurance firm)‎ of Lewis Jensen & Aurthur. After receiving her Realtors license, she worked in the real estate business until the winter of 2003. She was an active member of New Life Assembly of God and worked with its Prime Time Program.

She is survived by her 3 daughters: Dori Coplien and Margaret Heine both of Janesville, and Kathy ‎‎(Russ)‎‎ Szelag of Durango, CO; a sister, Jeanne ‎‎(Edgar)‎‎ Trout of Palatine, IL; 3 grandchildren: Chris Heine and Catherine Heine both of Janesville, and Tom Szelag of Durango, CO; a great grandchild, Vincent Heine of Janesville; a nephew, John Trout of Palatine, IL; and her family at New Life Assembly of God, her fellow Rock/ Green Realtors and special friends, the children of Green Valley Drive. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thurs., Feb. 17, 2005, at the NEW LIFE ASSEMBLY OF GOD with Pastor Mark Kilcoyne officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park.
