' 'Thanks for writing, Dori, I appreciate the information. I just need to clear up a couple of things to help you with your data. GGrandpa Kopplin, Julius (he always went by Julius) was b. 1866 in Brandenburg, Prussia, and d. 1945 in Janesville, Rock, WI. Grandma, Bertha Paetz was b. 1865, also in Brandenburg, and d. 1943, also in Janesville. They were m. 1886 in Germany. Grandma already had Otto, her child either out of wedlock, or from a first marriage...which is where the 'Bretz' might have come from. After they were m., Julius adopted Otto, who was b. early in 1887. I remember both of them fairly well as a child. They were very nice people indeed. They arrived in NYC Ellis Island on May 5, 1892, and then went to Muscatine, Iowa where they lived until moving to Rock Co. WI around 1904. Why Muscatine I have no idea. The trip across the water must have been a lot of fun for Bertha...Otto was 4yo, Emma was only abt 2yo, and she was 5 mos pregnant with my grandma, Anna Marie Louise Kopplin-Fuller. Bet she had a ball, don't you? Anyway, Julius and Bertha are not buried at Bethal...rather they are at Milton Lawns Cem. in Janesville, along with dau Mary Nightingale & her hubby, and their youngest dau, Edith Shoemaker.Julius had a brother, August who also came to America before him and settled near Orfordville, Rock, WI. Dori, please tell me abt your SD Kopplien's, as I have NO information about this branch...in fact, until your message, I had no knowledge of them at all. Where in SD? Are you in SD? My wife is from Sioux Falls.' '
