1915-1916 records show Lillian living at her parent's home at 401 S.Fairview, Lock Haven, PA. Her occupation was listed as bookkepper. (Sheassisted her father when he was County Treasurer.) Obituary notice from The Lock Haven Express dated march 21, 1951: Lillian Knecht Dies At Home. Church, Civic Leader Stricken Suddenly. One of Lock Haven's most active civic and church workers, Miss MaryLillian Knecht, was found dead at her home this morning about 9:30o'clock by her neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Richard w. Sigmund. She had diedof what Mrs. M. c. Eckert coroner, said was a acoronary occlusion. The Sigmunds, fellow members of St. Luke's Reformed Church, hadcalled her by telephone last evening to attend services at the church,and received no answer. Others in the family had also telephoned to theKnecht home, 401 S. Fairview St., where Miss Knecht lived alone. When shedidn't answer that cal,l it was thought she was at church. Apparently she was stricken during the afternoon, as mail and theevening paper had not been taken indoors. The Sigmunds, when they calledagain this morning and received no answer, went into the house to seewhat was the matter. Red Cross Chairman Miss Knecht has been in her usual health, and busy with her manychurch duties, and the Red Cross funds campaign. She was serving asFourth Ward chairman in the Red Cross canvass. Earlier yesterday, it was reported she had been to the doctor for acheck-up, but her death was preceded by no unusual illness. Children ofthe neighborhood frequently in and out of the house for visits, had beenabout as usual in the past few days. Today, they could not believe shehad died. Miss Knecht was born at Parvin, a daughter of the late William T.and Mary Shaffer Knecht. She has lived in Lock Haven for the past 40years. After graduating from the Normal School, she taught school twoyears, was for several years librarian at the Ross Library, and duringher father's term of office as county treasurer, served him as assistantcounty treasurer. Active in Community She was extremely active in church work as a member of St. Luke'sReformed Church and church school. She was chairman of the missionarydepartment of the Women's Guild, a member of the board of Christianeducation, superintendent of the kindergarten department, and a directorof the children's division for the past 35 years. In community life, she was a member of the Delphian LiterarySociety, an officer of the Lock Haven Music Club, a member of the Orderof Eastern Star, the Temple Club and the Knights Templar auxiliaries, theCivic Club, and the Eastern Clinton County Red Cross chapter. Surviving are two brothers, Frank S. of this city and John W. ofBirmingham, Mich.; two nieces, Mary and Nancy Knecht of Birmingham, and anephew, Richard H. Knecht, Pittsburgh.
