1850 census - Franklin, Montour, PA 1880 census - Spring Grove, Green WI as father-in-law, with daughter Kate O'Cavanaugh headstone - 79 Years 6 months per obit born near Orwigsburg, PA, Schuylkill Co., 1840 census shows he is now in Catawissa Twp., Columbia Cty. 1829 - note on Jacob's census sheet ' 'Isaac - gone' ' In 1853 his eldest son George Washington Zimmerman (Quaker) moved to moved to Rock Run Twsp . Stephenson Cty IL along with his wife Elizabeth (Keller) and baby son Isaac and his brother Henry Zimmerman, Henry's wife Elizabeth (Krisher) and their daughter Emmilia. The first so n (William) of George W and Elizabeth died the day after Isaac was born. In the spring of 1869, George W and Henry's father Isaac W came to Spring Grove Tws, WI, Gree n Co. and settled on 90 acres of improved land in Sec 36 of Spring Grive Twsp. With Isaac W came the rest of his family, 1 son and 4 daughters. Isaac Zimmerman came to Spring Grove in April, 1869, and bought ninety acres of improved land, known as James Farmer's place, on section 36, where he now lives. He was born in Pennsylvania, and was reared in Northumberland county. He was inclined to come west on account of his children having preceded him. His son, George, came west in 1853, and has been a resident of this town since 1855. His son, Henry, came west in 1853, and now lives on section 27. Benjamin came with his father, and now lives on section 34. Mr. Zimmerman had two unmarried daughters—Catharine and Lavina, and Elizabeth, a grandchild. Catharine, June 30, 1872, was married to Thomas O. Cavenaugh, a son of John O. Cavenaugh. His mother died when he was five years old, and he was brought up by Reuben Babcock. They have two children—Addie, born May 24, 1873, and Rowena, born Feb. 21, 1876. Lavina was married to Andrew Lanby, and the grandchild, Elizabeth, was married to John Moyer. Another daughter, Hettie, came west. She was married to Fredrick Gable. They settled in Winnebago Co., Ill., where she died.. A child she left was adopted by John Reader. Mr. Reader lives in Winnebago county. They have two children and two adopted children. Mr. Zimmerman lost his wife by death Sept. 15, 1875, at the age of sixty-seven years The graves of Elizabeth (daughter of Isaac), William (son of Benjamin) and William (son of G eorge W) are in the Zimmerman burial plot in the old Mt. Zion Cemetery located on a hill 3 mile s south and mostly west of Catawissa PA on Cemetery road. The road to the hill is just before Catawissa if yo u are coming in from I-80. The graves are hooded graves. As you stand on top the hill, Isaac's first farm is at the bottom (opp. side from road leading up the hill) The original log cabin for the Quakers is in Catawissa in one of several old cemeteries. Many Quakers today still make a Pilgrimage to Catawissa. When standing at the cemetery, which is atop a very tall hill, looking downhill and north, you will see the farm of Isaac W. Zimmerman. When he left for Wisconsin, his daugher Rebecca and her husband Mayberry George took over operations of the farm. Rebecca, along with a child from her husbands second marriage, are also buried in the hooded cemetery. Most of the other family members including Isaac W, Elizabeth Drum and George W are buried i n Mt. Hope Cemetery which is located about 3 miles north of the state line on Mt. Hope Rd. T he Petition for Letters of Administration the time of thedeath of Isaac, listed his land ha d a value of $4000 and he had less the $25 in his possession. |
