The Monroe Times 11/14/2008 Dorothy M. Johnson, age 82 of 2003-4th Street in Monroe, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe, due to complications of diabetes. She was born on November 8, 1926 in rural Monroe, a daughter of Fred W. and Gladys (Schultz) Brunkow. Dorothy attended the Round Grove School, and spent much of her youth helping her parents on the family farm; later she was employed in several Monroe retail stores, being manager of the shoe department of the J.C.Penney during its operation in the City of Monroe. On June 2, 1973 she married Herbert T. Johnson in the United Methodist Church then on 1603-16th Avenue, Monroe. The couple enjoyed a ten day wedding trip in Hawaii. Her greatest interests were traveling with her husband through most of the United States and Canada, and to Switzerland. She was well-known for her skill in baking, cooking, and crafts which she shared with her many friends. Her survivors include her husband, Herbert; two stepsons, Michael H. (Ann) Johnson and William W. (Veronica) Johnson; brother, Robert W. (Janet) Brunkow; sister, Katherine (Eugene, Sr.) Updike; nieces, Christine (Andrew) Schmidt and Cathy (James) Crubaugh; nephews, Daniel Brunkow, David Brunkow, Alan (Jackie) Updike, and Dale Updike. She was blessed with numerous grand nieces and grand nephews, and a special friend, Pauline Deyo, whom Dorothy and her husband regarded as their granddaughter. She was predeceased by her brother, Walter F. Brunkow; brother-in-law, Eugene Updike, Sr.; sister-in-law, Ruth (Robert W.) Brunkow; niece, Cindy (Earl) Burger; and nephew, Eugene Updike, Jr. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe with Rev. Gretchen Sylvester officiating. Family graveside interment services will be held for the family in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. Anyone choosing to offer a memorial gift may do so to the St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. |
