Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Shields, 89, who died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday at St. Claire hospital in Monroe after an illness of a week, were held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Newcomer funeral home. The Rev. Marcus Birrell, pastor opf the Methodist church officiated and the burial was in Greenwood cemetery.

The former Anna Brace was born Oct. 25, 1850, in the town of Avon, Rock County‎[should be Naperville IL]‎, the daughter of Thomas Brace and Nettie Hawkins Brace. She was married Oct. 24, 1869 to David Shields in the town of Spring Grove, and had resided in Brodhead and vicinity since.

She leaves a sister, Mrs. Wesley Hunt, of Brodhead; two daughters, Mrs. Phillip Cronk of Brodhead and Mrs. Mary Wheeler of Rockford; 10 grandchildren; nine great-children, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daugters, three brothers, and two sisters.
