1830 - Vermont ,Chittenden ,Williston The early history of Vermont reflects the political turmoil of eighteenth-century America. The first permanent settlement within present-day Vermont was at Fort Dummer, now in Dummerston, near the province of Massachusetts Bay, by whose laws Vermont was then governed.
