Notes
![]() Note |
1790 - East Windsor, Hartford, CT headstone Birth: Sep. 26, 1746 Death: Jan. 21, 1828 his wife, Lydia Mason Inscription: age 82, Revolutionary War, Lexington Alarm Thomas was a Revolutionary War soldier, thought to be in Lexington Alarm of 1775 Source p. 9 - The Record of Service of Connecticut Men, Part I, Outbreak of War, 1775 and headstone A Nathaniel Bancroft commanded a company from Lynn, Mass., at the Lexington Alarm. per DAR was born in Reading MA but his birth record was found in Framingham MA. The DAR record 105391of Adelle Ludlow mistakenly lists this Nathaniel as the father of Nathaniel b. 1773 rather than Thomas of CT 1775-THE LEXINGTON ALARM Several thousand militia rush to Massachusetts in "Lexington Alarm." The first battle of the Revolutionary War, fought in Massachusetts on April 19, 1775. British troops had moved from Boston toward Lexington and Concord to seize the colonists' military supplies and arrest revolutionaries. In Concord, advancing British troops met resistance from the Minutemen, and American volunteers harassed the retreating British troops along the Concord-Lexington Road. Paul Revere, on his famous ride, had first alerted the Americans to the British movement. Israel Bissell, a post rider, was dispatched at 10 a.m. on April 19 to Connecticut to alert the countryside to the "Lexington Alarm." He arrived at Norwich at 4 p.m. the next day and reached New London by 7. The Bancroft CT homestead in what is now South Windsor was passed down from Samuel Bancroft (b. 1667) to Nathaniel (b. 1703), to Thomas (b. 1746), to James (b. 1778). James Bancroft lived at Bancroft homestead until his death at age 91 in 1870. Census records for Harvey, father of Adele show his father was born in CT and his mother in MA which is what lead me to question her DAR record. DAR confirmation of service request sent Sept 3, 2007 as it appears his head stone my no longer exist - confirmed 10 Sep 2007 |
