Matzke, Kathryn L.
MONROE - Kathryn L. Matzke, age 90, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2006, at the New Glarus Home, New Glarus, her home for the last 10 years. Kathryn was the daughter of Guy (Jack) Taft and Ella Druck Taft, born in Clarno, Wis., on Sept. 24, 1916. She attended West Clarno School and told how she rode the train from Clarno to Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1934. On Jan. 1, 1938, Kathryn wed Willard Matzke in the Clarno Church parsonage. They farmed in Clarno Township from 1938 to 1964, and lived in Clarno from 1964 to 1974, moving to Monroe in 1974, however spending much of their time at the cottage in the Sawyer County Town of Barnes, north of Hayward. Willard passed away on Aug. 12, 1979, in Hayward. Kathryn and Willard have one son, Wendell Matzke of Oregon, Wis.; two grandchildren, Sheryl (Jim) Beyer of Brodhead and Daryl (Diane) Matzke of Prairie du Sac; and three great-grandchildren, David and Annie Beyer and Emily Matzke. Kathryn and Willard had many "Hired Men," her "Boys" (and a couple of "Girls") that lived and worked with them during their farming years. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; and siblings, Evelyn Dinley, John L. Taft, Lawrence "Shorty" Taft, and Ruthella Simler; and very special brother-in-law, Bob Simler. She was also preceded by "Boys" Floyd Dinley, Kenneth Kleckner, John Drews; and a special "Girl" Phyllis Ault. The family wishes to extend a hearty thank you to Kathryn's extended family at New Glarus Home. Services are planned for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.
