Mr . and Mrs. F.W. Menne, Rt 5, Quincy, received the officialfinding or notice from the United States governmanet regarding the deathof their son, Lt. Don F. Menne, who disappeared March 26-27, 1943, while he was piloting an airplane from Waller field, Trinidad, to Belem,Brazil. The finding states that Lt. Menne left the field March 26 and failed to arrive at his destination. In grateful memory of Second Lieutenant DonaldF. Menne, air transport command, who died in the service of his countryin the Latin American area, March 27, 1943 (presumed). He stands in theunbroken line of patriots who have dared to die that freedom might liveand grow, and increase its blessings. Freedom lives, and through it, helives - in a way that humbles the undertakings of most men. Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States per The Herald - Whig at the time there was some hope that his plane might havebeen forced down in some uninhabited area of South America and that heand his crew might eventually find their way back to some civilized community. |
