Janesville Gazette SOUTH BELOIT, IL — Melvin J. Dooley, 87, of South Beloit, IL, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in Beloit Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Beloit, WI, the son of William and Anna Wilke Dooley. Melvin was a 1936 graduate of Beloit High School. He proudly served his country as a submariner in the United States Navy during World War II. Melvin married Helen Doran on March 6, 1943, in Beloit, WI. Melvin was employed by Ingersoll Milling and later Yates American Machine as a lay out man, retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the South Beloit American Legion Post #288. Melvin was well known throughout the Beloit area for leading tour groups to Las Vegas. He also loved fishing in the Northwoods. Melvin and Helen were the loving parents of 3 children: Kathy (Larry) Weeks of Janesville, WI, Patrick (Maggie) Dooley of Baton Rouge, LA, and Jim (Pat) Dooley of Apple Valley, MN. His legacy also includes 4 grandchildren: Brian (Cathy) Weeks and Jason (Amy) Weeks, all of Madison, WI, Miles Dooley of Austin, TX, and Sarah Dooley of Baton Rouge, LA; and a great-granddaughter, Kate Weeks of Madison, WI. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Helen; and 2 brothers, Lester and Leonard Dooley. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church , 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, WI with Father Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 until 11:00 a.m. in the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements |
