BRODHEAD -- Helen M. Jones, age 92, of Brodhead, died Monday, September 27, 2004 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on August 20, 1912 in Jefferson Township, Green County, the daughter
of Oscar and Rosa Lee (Raymer) Matzke. Helen graduated from Juda High School in 1930 and then attended Green County Normal School for one year. Helen married Ralph Jones on December 28, 1932 in Rockford, Illinois. She taught in a one room schoolhouse at the West School on County S, rural Juda. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Brodhead. Helen enjoyed reading and doing embroidery, but her family was her biggest joy.
She is survived by 3 children: Curtis (Karen) Jones, Caroline (Gerald) Kamps, both of Brodhead and Christine (LaMerl) Hammon of Evansville; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-greatgranddaughter; a sister, Florence Bauman of Monroe and a sister-in-law, Rosanna Matzke of Brodhead. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Paul Matzke.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the United Methodist Church of Brodhead, with Reverend James Thunstrom officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Juda. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the EVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Brodhead.
