![]() Multimedia Object | Format: jpg Image Dimensions: 342 x 524 Type: photo Note: Chief Michikinikwa (Little Turtle) of the Miami Tribe is the 3rd Great Grandfather of Lillias Lanor (Rockey) Zimmerman and Irene Frances (Wells) Zimmerman. Irene and Lanor married sons of Owen Zimmerman. Their husbands 3rd Great Grandfather, John Jacob Walter survived the Wyoming Massacre (PA) which was probably lead by Michikinikwa's father, Chief Acquenacque of the Delaware Miami. |
![]() Multimedia Object | Format: jpg Image Dimensions: 72 x 99 Type: photo Note: Note: Captain William Wells (1770 – 1812), also known as Apekonit (Carrottop), was the son-in-law of Chief Little Turtle (Michikinikwa). I believe this photo is of son or nephew. Apekonit was married 3 times. The orphaned William was sent to live with a family friend, and three years later, was taken captive by Miami while on a hunting trip. Adopted first by a chief named Gaviahate (Porcupine), then by Michikinikwa (Little Turtle), he was raised as a Miami. He eventually married Michikinikwa's daughter Wanagapeth ("Sweet Breeze"). He served the tribe as a scout during his father-in-law's wars with the United States. He was killed in an Indian uprising on the shores of Lake Michigan in what is now Chicago IL. He is the 2nd Great Grandfather of Irene Frances (Wells) Zimmerman and Lillias Lanor (Rockey) Zimmerman. |
