1870 - Rockford Ward 4, Winnebago, Illinois 1900 - Hancock, Bon Homme, South Dakota Past and present of the city of Rockford and Winnebago County, Illinois - 1905 first was a Sgt, then First Lt, civil war, Rockford Zouaves, commanded by Capt. Garrett L. Nevius p. 88: lists his rank as Capt. p. 93: May 22, 1863 - Capt. Nevius is killed and W.D.E. Andrus is charged with returing the body to Rockford Rockford Register Feb. 20, 1862 A telegram received by a Rockford family stated that Captain Andrus, of the Rockford Zouaves, was wounded on his way home. Capt. Andrus was expected to complete his homecoming without incident. The telegram also stated that "Hank" Dean was not wounded as had previously been announced. p.136: Andrus' Illistrated Monthly was founded January 1872 by D.A.K. Andrus and W.D.E. Andrus ran till June 1874 then resumed in Belvidere in 1876 |
