Mary was the daughter of John & Elizabeth Edwards Coy. She was born on December 21, 1683 in Beverly, Massachusetts. In that same town on June 6, 1706 she became the second wife of Thomas Knowlton, a much older man with nearly adult children. Mary & Thomas had two children, born in Ipswich and Manchester. They finally settled in Shrewsbury, where Thomas died in 1750. The date and location of Mary's death has not been found. Information for this biography from "The History & Genealogy of the Knowltons of England & America", by Charles H. W. Stocking; the records of the Town of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and the "Darling Papers" of Ipswich. -- her father -- John Coy was the son of Richard Coy of Salisbury, Massachusetts and his wife Martha Haffield. John was born about 1655, probably in Salisbury. John's brother Caleb and his father were both killed in King Phillip's War. John Coy married Elizabeth Edwards in Beverly on June 23, 1679. She was the daughter of Rice Edwards and his wife Eleanor, born about 1657. John and Elizabeth had five or six children in Beverly, then moved to Wenham, where they had one or two more. They had seven children in all. John died about 1733, location unknown.
