OBITUARY- ABITZ, WILHELM FREDERICK (16 Oct 1954) Wilhelm Frederick Abitz, son of Christian F. and Wilhemina Zabel Abitz, was born on June 10, 1877 at Deelitz Pommern, Germany. He was baptized by Rev. Lutz at Doelitz in a Lutheran church as an infant. He came to this country at the age of five years with his parents, four sisters and two brothers. They homesteaded on a farm northeast of Wheaton with his parents. In his early years he was instructed in the Christian faith and was confirmed by Rev. Schmidt on March 22, 1891 at the age of 14 years in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Duluth, Kansas. He remained a faithful member of the Lutheran Church until his death. On February 23, 1905, he was united in marriage to Helena Marie Hinzman at Western, Nebraska by Rev. H. Limper. They made their home on a farm northeast of Wheaton until four years ago when they moved to the town of Wheaton, where they joined the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Wheaton. He passed away on October 16, 1954, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 6 days. He underwent a serious operation three years ago and had been in failing health since and was admitted to the Onaga hospital 4 weeks prior to his death. He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, Helena, three sons and eight daughters: Lydia, Mrs. Arnold Schwant, Blaine, Kansas., Meta, Mrs. Walter Figge, Wheaton, Kansas; Hilda, Mrs. Henry Kufahl, Onaga, Kansas; Martha, Mrs. August Schwisow, Powell, Nebraska; Selma, Mrs. Louis Wegner, Manhattan, Kansas; Herbert, Wheaton, Kansas, Almon, Wheaton, Kansas; Frieda, Wichita Chester, Onaga; Lavina, Mrs. Arnold Vorderstrasse, Plymouth, Nebraska; Olga, Manhattan, Kansas. Thirty grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Marten and Mrs. Lena Brunkow, both of Onaga. Five brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law and a host of friends and relatives. Two sisters, two brothers and one grandson preceded him in death. Funeral services were held in the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Kansas, Monday, October 18, 1954.
