Evag. Lutheran Church
Lives near Watertown Jefferson Cty WI first, then Decautur, Green Cty WI
in History of Green County as Malkut
found on 1871 plat map living south of Michael Kopplim Sr in Sylvester Twsp, Green Cty. This makes more sense than the families account since he is buried in Sylvester Twsp. It appears that he took over his fathers farm.
William converted in 1867, Sophie in 1868 per the Malcook family. This may mean Jewish to Luth. or it could be Luth. to Evangelical. The church they attended after moving to Decatur was Ev. Luth.
William had at minimum, two daughters and three sons by his first marriage. First wife and three sons buried in Decatur, one daughter died at sea.
Along with the adopted daughter (Lydia, daughter of Sophie's sister Christina, they also raised a daughter (Brown) that had been adopted by one of Williams children who died young. Her relationship to Helena Brown is unknown. - Per Linda Makel, Winter Haven FL
per the Guardianship papers of Michael Kopplin, who by 1886 was insane, William and his wife move to Michaels home in Sylvester Twsp. and rent/work the farm around 1892. This follows after Mattie's siblings had done the same thing but could not get along with thier aging mother. When she (Louisa) tries to have them removed, Michaels guardian Christ Wiesenberg states that unlike the others, William is a good farmer, tends the land well and pays $50 more in rent than had the others. It is noted that he pays $300 per year. In 1892, Louisa, under Michael's guardian Christ Wiesenberg, puts the Coplien farm up for sale. Christ opts to sell the Wm. Malkow and his son Christian but Louisa is not happy. She does not like Wm. or his son and refuses to sign the deed. (per Michale Kopplin estate papers).
After the death of both Louis and Michael, 1/9th of the farm (owned by children of Tina (Kopplin) Hintzman, deceased, is sold to Wm. Malkow. It is assumed that he later purchaed the remainder of the farm. Per platt maps he is the owner but there could have been another owner in-between.
