(Boy, have I learned a lot since then...) She told me that virtually all the Hartwigs that immigrated to the US were in MN, Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin, and that they had come for religious reasons. She also said that they were pretty much all related to each other. Some branches broke off the main groups and forming little family enclaves of Hartwigs. She suspected my Mayville Hartwigs were one of these groups.' ' Linda Rose --- ' 'My Grandfather (Carl Hartwig) came over for religious beliefs also. He was Lutheran (sp) and was also part of the Masonic Temple. He and his brother (not sure of his name) worked a farm in Wisconsin near Milwaukee. My Grandfather travled back to Germany for a short time but during World War II we lost contact with him and some other family members.' ' Frederick Hartwig |
