Freeport Journal Standard Virgil Meinert, 92, of Brodhead, Wis., passed away on Sunday morning, June 7, 2009, at Collinwood Elderly Care Home in Brodhead. He was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Rock Grove Township, Stephenson County, the son of Will and Bertha (Zimmerman) Meinert. The Meinert family moved to Green County, Wis., in 1930. Virgil farmed with his parents until they moved to Brodhead in 1968. He was employed by the Greenwood Cemetery Association until his retirement. He was currently serving as a director of Spring Grove Mutual Insurance Company. Virgil is survived by his sister, Carol (Dale) Bennehoff of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Elmer Lundeen. The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home in Brodhead with Pastor Eric Blachford of Beth Eden United Methodist Church of Rockford officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Oakley, Wis. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Monroe Clinic Hospice or a charity of choice. |
