Obituary of June 16, 1884: Sudden Death of Frank Shaffer. Frank Shaffer, son of Ex-Sheriff Shaffer, and brother of Mr. LewShaffer, of this place (Bellefonte, PA.), died at his father's residencein Walker township, on Monday last. He was 15 years, 6 months, 26 daysold, and had been ill since last February. The funeral took place onWednesday, the remains being interred in the cemetery at Snydertown. Thefamily have our sympathy. Since writing the above paragraph, we learn that the deceased seemedto have almost recovered from his affliction, and was congratulatinghimself that he would soon be as well as ever. He was so much better onSunday that his father and mother drove away to visit a sick neighbor. When they returned, Frank seemed to be worse, and shortly after he wasseized with a convulsion. Medical aid was at once summoned, but withoutavail. The convulsions continued and increased from that time until hisdeath at half past two o'clock on Monday. Frank was an exceedingly interesting and affectionate boy, and wasthe constant companion of his father, who seems utterly unable to bear upunder the blow. The mother, who is just recovering from illness heerselfbears it better than he does, but it is a terrible bereavement to thewhole family. The dear boy was the beloved of all, and they cannotrealize that he is gone forever. Had they been expecting it, it mighthave been easier to bear, but the blow came so suddenly that it iscrushing. Some ten years ago, Frank had the scarlet fever, and he wasever afterward troubled more or less with pain in the head, which lastFebruary seemed to develop into neuralgia. The immediate cause of hissudden death was cerebro meningitis. Death has robbed his friends of the love and tenderness, but it hasundoubtedly transplanted him to the Garden of God - The heavenly Eden -the mansion, not made with hands, where human souls are rendered happyforever. But no words of consolation will now avail - only time can abatethe agony of the grievous wound. Facts about this person: Burial Lutheran Cemetery, Snydertown, PA. |
