It appears that Stanley and Walter move to Montana with an uncle (possibly James, born Ohio, who is found in MT in 1910) or cousin. John later moved to MT. It is assumed that after the death of his wife, the children were sent to live with other people until John either remarried or re-established himslef.
Walter later names a son James. In the 1920 census there are a number of Sanders in Missoula where the wife is born in WI. They are about the same age as Stanley and Walter.
It also appears that at least one Uncle of John's moved to MN. There is a Harry living in Montana that per the census was born in MN but this looks more like our Harry, born in IL
1910 lists a John W Sanders in Spruce Grove, Becker, MN, married to Gertrude with a son Wm born in IL but this John W is noted as being born in Sweeden
E.Sanders born 1868 in IL lives in Moorhead, Clay, MN. His father was born in PA, wife is Annie B.
