AMM2 US NAVY WORLD WAR II death: ALS (lou gehrigs complications) Published Friday, March 18, 2005 11:28:45 AM Central Time Russell G. Coplien EDGERTON/MISSION, TX -- Russell G. Coplien, age 82, formerly of Brodhead, went home to be with the Lord after a long courageous battle with ALS on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at V.A. Hospital in Madison, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 21, 1922 in Twin Grove, WI, the son of Elmer and Nettie (Frankenburger) Coplien. Russell married Carol Gempeler on Sept. 15, 1943 at Alameda Naval Air Station in San Francisco, CA. He served in the Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate, 2nd Class from 1942 until 1945. Russell drove for JATCO from 1952 to 1982. He lived in the Edgerton area until his retirement in 1982; then moved to Mission, TX. He belonged to the American Legion #37 in McAllen, TX; was involved with the Civil Air Patrol; enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling, motorcycles and especially airplanes. He is survived by his wife, Carol of Edgerton; 4 children, Ted (Lynn) Coplien of Black River Falls, Vicki (Duane) Olmstead of Highland Village, TX, Debbie (Bruce) Marsden of Edgerton, and Bill (Cindy) Coplien of Black River Falls; blessed by 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Bobbie Coplien of Brodhead; a sister, Sissy (Les) Curry of Footville; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Kenneth, Donald and Burton; and a sister, Isabelle Anderson. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2005 at EVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Brodhead, with Pastor's Duane Olmstead and Robert Timmons officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at EVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Brodhead. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to MDA/ALS in Russell's name. |
