She was a gentle lady who had great tolerance for adversity and patience beyond compare. In 1953 she began radiation treatments for cancer of the uterus but the condition had advanced beyond control. Her first cousins, Hazel and Edna McKee; Laura Cozzens, Florence Gattshall; her aunts Mary Gattshall Cozzens, Martha Gattshall Duell also had solid tumors of the female organs (uterus or breast); her uncle Fred Gattshall had cancer of the lip and stomach.
