[gattshall phillip.ged] [Test2.ftw] [test4.FTW] [data.gott.ged] Emma J Mathews was daughter of David Mathews who was son of Philip Mathews. Philip settled near Goshen, erected the first hotel, or tavern, on the current site of Goshen, Indiana. He had a large farm in Jackson Township, where he died. His son, David apparently also lived on the farm until his death. Many members of this family are buried in the Milford Cemetery, Kosciusko County. The first settlement in this area was made by Col. John Jackson, thus the name of Jackson Township. In the extreme southern part, between State Road and Turkey Creek there was a settlement: Thomas Hall, Henry Mathews, John Mathews, PHILIP MATHEWS, and others. Philip Mathews died 27 Dec 1867 and his wife, Jane, died 14 Feb 1868. Both are buried in Baintertown Cemetery.[gattshall.FTW] [test4.FTW] [data.gott.ged] Emma J Mathews was daughter of David Mathews who was son of Philip Mathews.
