Floyd A. 'Bucky' Coplien Jr. Floyd A. "Bucky" Coplien Jr., 66, of Monroe, died on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Bucky was born on Oct. 26, 1939, in Monroe, the son of Floyd B. and Dorothy (Quinlan Nelson) Coplien. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army with Co. B, 128th. Infantry, 32nd Division, attaining the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1962. On May 4, 1963, Bucky married Ruth Ann Hoffman in Fond du Lac. He worked for his father at Coplien Painting, purchased the business in 1967 and sold the company to his son in 1996. He was a faithful member of Monroe United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School and the Confirmation Mentoring Program. Over the years, he belonged to the Monroe Lions Club, The Gideons, American Legion Post No. 84, VFW, Disabled American Veterans and Monroe Moose Lodge No. 754. He was also active in the Monroe community, serving as a Green County Board supervisor, deputy coroner and with the EMS. He loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's many activities. Bucky enjoyed morel mushroom hunting, fishing, model trains and collecting numerous items. Surviving are his most treasured love, his wife of 43 years, Ruth Ann Coplien of Monroe; a daughter, Tamara Coplien of Madison; a son, Mark (Jennifer) Coplien of Monroe; four grandchildren, Christopher, Katelynn, Allison, and Matthew Coplien, all of Monroe; his brother, Terrance (Lori) Coplien of Nekoosa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dave (Sandra) Sterr of Bemidji, Minn., John (Nancy) Hoffman, Diana (Jerry) Konen, Deborah (Dan) Ashenfelter, Don (Jan) Hoffman, Kendall and Craig Hoffman, all of Fond du Lac; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Sonja Arnold; and mother-in-law, Ruth (Krueger) Hoffman. Services: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Monroe United Methodist Church, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 84. Private family burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at Newcomer Funeral Home in Monroe, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Bucky's name to Monroe United Methodist Church or Monroe Clinic Hospice. Newcomer Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family (Fond Du Lac Reporter) |
