Notes
![]() Note |
Florence Graduated from the University of Richamond, VA with a BA in Fine Art.She and Eugene met there. Eugene choose the Army as a career. While stationed in Turkey, Florence taught English to foreign students. When stationed in NJ, Florence returned to school at Rutgers University where she received he Masters in English. After, she taught Honors High School English. Florence resides in NJ. Allan, I guess it has been quite awhile since we had one of our conversations. I tend to lose track of time very easily and admittedly am not a particularly good correspondent. My mother passed away on July 22, 1998. She died peacefully in her sleep at Harrogate, the life-care facility where she had been residing the last few years of her life. The morning she died she had goneto breakfast, then told the nurses she wanted to go back to her room and liedown. The nurses helped her into bed and when they checked on her about a halfhour later, she had died. The last few years of her life she suffered some minor strokes and heart problems. Basically, her health just seemed to deteriorate slowly until; at last, she passed on. For your records she died at Harrogate, 400 Locust Avenue in Lakewood, NJ. She was 76 years old (born July 31, 1921). Her maiden name was Mary Florence Lafoon. Her occupation was teacher. Before she retired she worked in the Freehold Regional School System. She was, in my estimation an excellent teacher. Her father was Otis Lafoon. Her motherwas Mary Lafoon. She chose to be cremated and, as per her wishes, there was nofuneral or memorial service. Her ashes were scattered in the Atlantic Ocean, again, as per her wishes. She always loved the ocean. An interesting note: She always claimed to be an atheist. However, when she was moved into the nursing home section of Harrogate, she asked for five books – one of which was the Bible. She also told me I could say a prayer when I dispersed her ashes… quote: “If you must.” She was a character, if there ever was one. She is survivedby: Bruce and Sandra (McCorkle) Cornwell (son and daughter-in-law) Brendan and Matthew Cornwell (grandsons) Mark and Judy (Sullivan) Cornwell (son and daughter-in-law) Tucker and Scott Cornwell (grandsons) Sandy and I are doing well. Our son Brendan is living in New Hampshire and working for Arcadia Publishing. Using his computer skills, he retouches old photographs for publication intheir local history books. He still aspires to be a filmmaker He is engaged to Sara Zoë Patterson. No date has been set for the wedding. Matthew is a senior in High School. He aspires to be a rock musician. I hope all is well withyou. I would very much like to meet you one day and I suppose I should be moreintentional about that. Unfortunately, so many things I would like to do getlost in the shuffle. God’s blessings to all, Bruce P.S. I still have the aol email, but I prefer to use BKC51@nycap.rr.com. |
