John Edwin ' 'Ed' ' - served in WWI - participated in battles in France - 1) Belleauwood, 2 ) Chateau/Thierry, 3) 1st crossing of the River Marne, 4) 2nd crossingof the same, 5) Argonne Forest - he took some mustard gas in one of those battles. He remained in France at the war's end. Acted as mechanic and chauffeurfo Col. Walter C. Sterling touring Europe. After his return to the US he attended Machinist's Training School in Altoona, PA. He then returned to Northumberland and worked in the Lumber business with his father Harry, and worked for The American Car/Foundry, Berwick, PA making tanks foor WW II, as a machinist.He was also a tool and dye maker. His hobbies included vegetable gardening, carpentry, and home renovation. |
