CCS US NAVY WORLD WAR II divorced 3/27/1968 Freeport Journal Standard Jan 14 1939, Monroe WI Coplien, Reported Missing Yesterday After Accident, Found in Rockford Harry Coplien, 27, who was reported missing after his car, in which a Freeport girl was a passenger, crashed into a pole on a highway near Rockford Illinois early Tuesday morning, has been located. He stated that following the accident, he had been given treatment in a Rockford hospital for minor injuries but did not say why he had not returned to his home. The damaged machine is in Rockford and authorities said he probably would remain in that city until it is repaired. -- the girl was Miss Elva Eli, 517 N. Hardin Ave, Freeport IL, age 18, official records show his name as Harley, not Harry. The accident happened near Camp Grant. Miss Eli's hat was found near the damaged car which was in a ditch. She told authorities that neither she nor Mr. Coplien was injured and that she found other transportation home. No one reported the accident. The abandoned vehicle was found the next morning, locked with the keys on the front seat. |
