Jerry I. Coplien, age 67, of Monroe, died on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 8, 1937 in Monroe, the son of Nathan and Helen (Kittleson) Coplien. Jerry graduated from Monroe High School, Green County Teachers College, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Jerry and Judith L. Huber were married October 28th, 1956 in Monroe. Jerry started his career at Montegomery Wards and later became the Monroe Parks and Recreation Director. Soon after he established his own business, Coplien Insurance and Realty. Later in life, he established Coplien Appraisal and was Assessor for the City of Monroe, Lake Geneva and the Villages of Belleville and South Wayne. He was also a candidate for State Senate in 1979. Jerry was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Monroe Smith Lodge #31, Green County Shrine Club, Palestine Chapter, Commandry. He also served for the City of Monroe as Alderman for 22 years, and was a member of the City of Monroe Planning Commission. Music was a large part of him and his family's life. During college he was a member of the ' 'Jolly Five Polka band' ' in which he played the accordian. Jerry and Judy also owned and operated various music stores in the Monroe area. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, and his Corvette, along with spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife, Judith L. Coplien of Monroe, son Gerald A. Coplien of Monroe, daughter Brenda L. (Coplien) Vordermann, along with 6 grandchildren, Shenelle, Shandra, Vaughan, Garrett and Alexa Coplien, Stevie Ray (Vordermann) Johnson; and 1 Great-Grandchild Janessa Johnson. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Kittleson) Coplien and his father Nathan Coplien. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, May 6, 2005 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Avenue in Monroe with Pastor Keith Anderson. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home with Masonic services at 7 P.M.
