Based on Lycoming County History (974.851, D2l), family legend indicates that the Hills were originally from Scotland but that appears to be inaccurate when viewing the roots traced here to the Palatine area of Germany. Jacob appears to have moved from Enkirch to Frankenthal where most of the children were baptized and then they were active in Heuchelheim before emmigrating to Pa. The Hills built a large mansion on the Moselem Creek in Berks Co. in 1767 which is still standing today. Letters of Adm. to Ann Elizabeth Hill, Co. of Philadelphia, widow of Jacob Hill, deceased, 9 Aug 1739. Jacob Hill bought in 1723 of Nicholas Leisher Sr. and Jr. and Edward Peters, nephew of James, land in Philadelphia Co., Pa(Recorded in deed book F-8-147, City Hall, Philadelphia, Pa.) This is probablay the first record of Jacob Hill and probably refers to the 134 acres in Towamencing township, Philadelphia County(now Montgomery County) which Jacob Hill then sold on August 6, 1735 to the Schwenkfelders, George Dresher and David Seipt, after he had removed to Oley in Berks County. The earliest deed on record in Berks County to a member of the Hill family was dated August 13, 1735 to Jacob Hill from John Ellis & wife for 209 acres in District near Oley. Jacob was a prosperous miller. He first appears on record in 1723 for purchasing land in Philadelphia Co. from Nicholas Leisher Sr. and Jr. and Edward Peters.
