Raymond "Zip" G. Zimmerman, 82, Orangeville, IL, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Freeport Memorial Hospital. He was born August 2, 1923 in Jefferson Township, Green County, WI, the son of Ray H. and Alverda Gill.
He married Chery Mae Cramer on Sept. 26, 1948 in Orangeville at the United Brethren Church.
He worked in construction and also King Seely. He was Oneco Township Commissioner for a number of years, a member of the Orangeville Fire Dept., Monroe VFW Cecil Jones Post 2312 and the Military Order of the Cooties where he was a seam squirrel. He was a member of the McConnell American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of Orangeville; a daughter, Rae (Keith) Helland of Juda, WI; two sons, Kim and Dean Zimmerman of Wheeling, IL; two grandchildren, Troy and Kristi of Juda, WI; a sister-in-law, Shirley Kleckler of Winslow, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill; and a sister, Florence Henze.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006 in Grace Evangelical Free Church in Orangeville, IL with Pastor Mark Lanman officiating. Burial is in Silent Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cramer-Leamon Funeral Home, Orangeville.
A memorial is being established in his name.
