Jeremiah RIPLEY, Junior, Lieutenant:Notes:In May of 1733, a charge of contempt was levied against Jeremiah...' 'This assembly do resolve... Jeremiah Ripley, Junior, of Windham, being brought before this Assembly for speaking reproachful and contemptuous word against his honour the Governor and of Roger Wolcott, Esquire, and upon confessing himself in great measure guilty thereof, as appears by his confession lodged on the files, and evidence appearing to prove the rest to the satisfaction of this assembly, that he is guilty of the same: be it resolved that the said Jeremiah Ripley, Junior, shall be disfranchised during the pleasure of this assembly, and until they shall see cause to restore him to his freedom again; and that he give bond to the Treasurer of this colony, of the value of one thousand pounds money, conditioned that he carry good behaviour towards His Honour the Governor and to Roger Wolcott, Esquire, and all other His Majesty's subjects, for the space of one year next coming, and pay the cost of his prosecution, and stand committed until the same be performed. ‎(Colonial Connecticut Records, page 462)‎In some measure Jeremiah turned the tables when, some years after this stiff penalty, he served as a Patriot, and rose to the rank of Lieutenant, against 'His Honour the Governor' and the King.
