Mary Randall described her grandfather as a Methodist circuit rider. Lorenzo Dow Randall was named after Lorenzo Dow, as were many, many male children born around this time. The following is taken from the records of the Methodist Historical Society: ' '1799 - Plattsburgh circuit . . . Ticonderoga on the south tothe Canadian border on the north; extended westward ad libitum. The eccentricLorenzo Dow was licensed to preach in 1800 and in November he was sent to this circuit, where he labored for six weeks with marked success.' ' L orenzo Dow Randall lived in Canaan, NY. In about 1857-58, the family headed for Colorado.They got as far as Nebraska when their caravan was ambushed, and they decidedto go back. Settled in Iowa for a year, then moved across the river to Illinois, where they stayed for three years. About 1860-61 they moved to Northport, Michigan. Daughter, Rozina, stayed in Iowa. Probably married there (______ Pate). |
