Notes
![]() Note |
per census records 1880 - Monroe, Green, Wisconsin 1. There is a city in Vermont (home of Edsons father, named Ludlow). It is the home of Pres. Calvin Coolidge. The pres. was born long after Calvin Ludlow so he is not named after the Pres. 2. Monroe has had a free public library since the early 1880's. In 1904, the Arabut Ludlow family gave $12,500 to build a new library at 1505 9th Street. The Arabut Ludlow Memorial Library served the community for 90 years, but its 5,300 square feet became overcrowded. (Not sure of relationship to Edson but possibly his uncle, per the 1894 history of Green County, Arabut is the son of James and Rosanna, which would make Edson his nephew. ) In September 1993, Lee and June Geiger purchased the old Monroe Clinic and graciously donated it to the School District of Monroe for a new public library. The Monroe Public Library opened its doors at 925 16th Avenue on April 8, 1996. The building provides approximately 20,000 square feet of library space on two floors, with additional area for collections. The new building also provides conference and meeting rooms, private study rooms, a separate children's area, a reference desk, several computer stations, including three Internet stations, and additional storage and work areas. |
