The Snyder County Pioneers (Dr. Charles A. Fisher) John Hassinger, was a son of John Jacob Hassinger, Sr. He was born on November 14, 1764, and died on May12, 1810. His wife was Eva Catherine, daughter of John Bobb and his wife Eleanor Klein (???), who were also the parents of John Conrad Bobb. Eva was born on November 12, 1769, and died on October 2, 1826. Both are buried in the Old Hassinger Cemetery, west of Middleburg. John was assessed as a single freeman in Beaver Township in 1789. His will is recorded at Sunbury, Pa., and in it he mentions his wife and a son (unnamed), and other children (names not given) His brother George was executor of the will. No military service was found for him. The below seems to confirm my belief that my Walters line was in some manner related to the family of Issac and Maria Eva (Felty) Zimmerman. Zimmerman's granddaughter Mary Ann married Dr. David Kleckner who moved to Stephenson County IL. Dr. Kleckner treated Peter Walters and his grandson Elmer Walters just before their deaths. After her parents death Peter's grandaughter Malinda Walters and her husband Owen Zimmerman took in Cynthia Ann Kline, daughter of Rebecca Zimmerman, granddaughter of Isaac, and cared for her until her death. Owen then worked with the IOOF to provide Cynthia with a proper headstone. These are just two examples of many where I find to two families appearing to have a close relationship. Hassinger was born in Franklin township, Union (now Snyder) County, April 3, 1831. He is a son of Conrad Hassinger, who was born September 13, 1794, and died December 14, 1851. His mother's maiden name was Lucy Ann Snyder, who was born March 23, 1802, and died August 2, 1870. Their remains are interred in the cemetery of Christ's Lutheran Church....John Hassinger, his grandfather, was born November 14, 1764 and died May 12, 1810, aged 45 years. His great-grandmother, whose maiden-name was Catharine Bob, was born November 14, 1769; died October 2, 1826, aged 56 years. They are both interred in close proximity in the old cemetery at Hassinger's Church.......Mr. Hassinger is the descendant, on both sides, from one of the oldest German families in the State, who had settled in Chester and Lancaster Counties as far back as the year 1715.......Mr. Hassinger married Margaret Louisa kleckner, a daughter of George Kleckner. Hassinger's great-grandmother was Catharine Bob and his grandfather was John Hassinger. In fact, I believe that these two were husband and wife so are either his grandparents or great-grandparents (probably grandparents, given the dates) Note: She is correct, John S and Catherine were husband and wife, marrid 11 Dec 1794 |
