Freeport (Ill.) Journal Mrs. Elizaberth Bobb wife of David Bobb, departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Miller, at Des Moines, Iowa, April 2, 1903, aged 87 years 6 months and 3 days. Miss Elizabeth Bingaman was born in Snyder county, Pennsylvania, Sept. 29, 1815. On Jan. 11, 1835, she was married to David Bobb, and on Sept. 10, 1845 they stared for the then far west. There being no railroads then they traveled in the "Prarie Schooner" arriving at Walnut Grove, Stephenson county, Illinois, Oct. 21, 6 weeks lacking one day, after starting from their home in the east. They settled on their farm, 2 and 1/2 miles southwest of Orangeville, where they resided until 1886, in the fall of which year they moved to Orangeville. On April 1, 1895 they moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where they resided with their daughter, Mrs. J. H. Miller, until she died. They celebrated their 68th anniversary of their marriage Jan. 11. Theirs was indeed a long and happy married life, this was evident by faithful and cheerfull devotion to the day of their seperation, disproving the oft repeated adage, "Marriage is a failure." From the Union of this couple there were born to them 10 children: Lieut. I. M. Bobb of Orangeville, who died from the effects of s surgical operation two years ago; Dr. D. B. Bobb, of Dakota: Mrs. Jonathan Gross of Sibley, Iowa; R. R. Bobb of Orangeville; A. J. Bobb of Carl Junction, MO.; Mrs. Sadie Hyatt, of Cleveland, OH; Mrs. J. H. Miller of Des Moines, Iowa (who died in 1875); Mrs. Jennie Shipton and A. S. Bobb of Haywards, CA. She was a chilrtian and acceptable member of United Evangelical Church. She was kind hearted, loving, helpful wife and indulgent mother. She has gone to her eternal rest. The remains were brought to Illinois, and will be buried at Orangeville on Sat. at 10:00. Aged Are Called A telegram received here Thursday morning announced the sad news of the death of Mrs. David Bobb, at the home of her daughter Mrs. J.H. Miller, at Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Bobb had been in poor health all winter and an attack of pneumonia was too much for her weakened system. Mrs. Bobb was born in Snyder Co., Pa., Sept. 29, 1815 and was aged 87 years, 7 months and 17 days. Her maiden name was Bingman. On Jan. 11, of this years, the 68th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bobb was celebrated. For many years they lived here, but moved west some years ago. She is survived by an aged husband, eight children, forty-four hrandchildren and fifty-three great-grandchildren. The children are: Dr. D.B. Bobb, of Dakota; Amelia Gross, of Sibley, Iowa: R.P. Bobb and Emma Bolender, of this place; Allen Bobb, of Carl Junction, Mo.; Aaron F. Bobb, of Hayvert, Cal.; Delila Miller, of Des Moines, Iowa; Sarah Haupt, Cleveland, Ohio. The body was brought by Dr. Bobb, of Dakota. Today, Saturday, at 10 a.m. the funeral will be held from the home of her son R.P. Bobb. Services at the M.E. church. |
