1800 - Penns, Northumberland Penns Township, is now Penn, Centre County, near Centre Hall on the west side of the county. It borders Union and Snyder Counties. Middleberg, is where Jacob and Barbara's parents and numerous other relatives are buried. Jacobs sons and brother have their land where these 3 counties merge. 1800: 4 sons, 1 daughter still at home 1810 - Centre, Northumberland 7 sons, 2 daughers - Centre Twsp. becomes part of the counties of Union, Centre and later Snyder Children are not all confirmed but I am 99.9% sure they are correct. If you are a descendant of John Jacob Walters and want to join the DAR from the Walters line, rather than the Bobb line, you will probably need to confirm his children via census records however some may already be in the DAR reocrds. Mary Walters does have a DAR marker at her grave. She died in 1883 but the DAR wasn't formed until 1890. Obviously, she isn't the one who applied for membership. She had 1 known daughter from her 2nd marriage who is probably the woman who became a member. I did not find any other GAR markers on Walters graves in Fulton County which to me rules out the possibility that the local chapter placed the memorial marker there without an application from someone. If that was the case, they surely would have marked the graves of Mary's female cousins. At any rate, Mary would have been a great granddaughter to Jacob and more than likely had told he daughter about her grandfather. The DAR did confirm that Mary was listed as a descendant of Jacob. Since she would have presumably known the names of her aunt and uncles, it's possible those that moved to Indiana are already in the index. Mary was a daughter of Henry and Mary (Laughbrige) Walters, her first husband was Washington Walters, a cousin, son of Wm. Michael and Susannah Walters. Sons Wm., Martin and Peter(left PA after census), Jonas (left after census) and daughter Mary all in Fulton County Indiana by 1850. Martin moved first to OH then to IL and later Kansas, Jonas to IL and WI. Son Jonas, Peter plus daughter Amelia and grandsons Isaac and family, Jeremiah and family, Jacob Walters and granddaughter Mena (Bobb) Walters and their families to WI/IL Stateline area by 1870, grandson Jesse to Stateline between 1862 and 1866 Son Adam remained in the area and is buried in the same cemetery as his grandfather. Michael Conrad appears to have died in PA but at least one of his sons, Solomon also moved to Fulton County as evidenced by the fact his first wife was buried there in 1869. His other sons also moved to Indiana, but to another county. If you want to join the DAR under Jacob's father, you will need to use the will of his father-in-law to show John Jacob Walter was married to Maria Barbara Bobb, and not as the DAR records indicate, Catharine Lauver. When the DAR was first established, little or no proof was required. Since there is no information in the DAR records as to her DOB or DOD, I suspect whoever was the first of his line to join, needed a name and somehow came up with Catharine Lauver. Rev.
