Killed in an indian attack. Left dead on a spear proped up in front of his home. Wife and children escaped. Arrived in America on the ship "Samuel" on 29 Aug 1737. He bought land in Albany Twp, Berks Co.On 22 Jun 1757, during a severe thunderstorm, the Drumm family was attacked by Indians. An account written three days later by James Reed of Reading:"Last night Jacob Levan came to see me, and showed me a letter of the 22d inst. from Lieutenant Engle by which he advised Mr. Levan of the nurder of one Adam Trump (Drumm) in Allemangel by Indians that evening, and that they had taken Trumpos wife and his son, a lad of nineteen years old, prisoners; but the woman escaped, though, upon her flying, she was closely pursued by one of the Indians (of which there were seven), that he threw his tomohawk at her, and cut her badly in the neck, but 'tis hoped not dangerously. This murder happened in as great a thunderstorm as has happened for twenty years past; which extended itself over a great part of this and Northampton Counties -- I almost forgot to mention (but am so hurried just now, 'tis no wonder) that the Indians, after scalping Adam Trump, left a knife and a halpert, or spear fixed to a pole, in his body."The Indians stole a quantity of liquor from Adam's house, and left with George to a place about seven miles away, where they got to dancing and became drunk. George escaped and headed for Fort Lebanon. An Indian followed George for some distance, but could not catch him. George returned home and resumed farming. |
