William still alive in 1860, with father no marriage record exists in Fulton County IN for William, may have died in the Civil War - The Soldiers and Sailors system lists 2 Wm. Walters who died in the civil war - no mention of state or company. Wm and his brother appear to have deserted. Deserters were known to be shot. Records also show that while on the border of IN and KY in the months that Wm and Henry deserted, many in their unit died from disease. Their cousin had been captured and taken to Andersonville, another cousin Washington had been killed. This may explain why they deserted. ========== Walters, Henry Private Co. K 140th IN Inf.
