After the birth of their first three children at Doelitz, Germany theysailed for the US in 1856, landing in New York City. They journeyed atonce to Monroe, Green Co, Wisc. where they lived a year before coming toKansas in the spring of 1857 by ox team; a six week journey with acompany of 25 people. They brought with them a couple of cows and somehousehold goods. When they reached Duluth, they found wild game andIndians. The only roads were Indian trails. They took a pre-emption claim of 160 acres in Mill Creek Twnp. |
