Harry R. Grinnell, age 97, of Monroe, died Friday, August 8, 2003 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe. Harry was born February 18, 1906 in Sylvester Township, Green County, Wisconsin, the son of Lewis and Esther Grinnell. He married Mae M. Hammon on April 14, 1926 in Freeport, IL. Mr. Grinnell began his forty-five year postal career at the Monroe Post Office in 1925, working as a clerk for twenty years, then as a rural carrier on Route two until his retirement on November 27, 1970. Survivors include a son, Robert R. (Barbara) Grinnell of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; a daughter, Joyce Coplien of Monroe; four grandchildren; James Coplien of Wheaton, IL, Gregg (Dawn) Coplien of Madison; Tom (Dora) Grinnell of San Jose, CA; and Diane Grinnell of Apple Valley, MN; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, on March 27, 1989; two brothers, Mark and Thurman Grinnell; a sister, Rachel Grinnell, who died at the age of five; and a son-in-law, Dwight Coplien on November 1, 1975. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME in Monroe. Pastor Dan Krahenbuhl of the Monroe Bible Church will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Harry's name. |
