John came with his parents and family in 1847 and settled in Wisconsin. In 1860 John and his brother Charlew came to Kansas. Charles brought his wife and child with him. The child died Their parents and family moved to Michigan. John worked out until 1862 when he served in the Civil War in Co. C of the llth Kansas Cavalry. In 1865 he homesteaded his home-place. In March 1866 John married Wilhelmine Kolterman daughter of Daniel.
