Robert E. Hawkins, 55, a resident of Brodhead and vicinity until 15 years ago died Monday evening in the Evanston hospital, Evanston, Wyo. He had been in failing health the last eight years.
Mr. Hawkins was born Dec 3, 1887, in Avon township, Rock County, the son of Charles and Florence Kline Hawkins. On March 8, 1911, he married Hazel Marsh in Monroe and they made their home in Spring Grove township until 15 years ago when they moved to Esterbrook, Wyo.
As a boy of nine years of age, Mr. Hawkins was taken and raised by Mr. and Mrs. Scott Brobst, Brodhead. He was a farmer and rancher all his life.
Survivors include three sons, Sgt. Alerd Hawkins, Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Sgt Russel Hawkins, who is with the paratroops over-seas and S/S Robert Hawkins, now Logan, Utah, Air Base training as a pilot after returning from the European area where he completed 50 missions as a gunner; a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Elkins, Huntington Park, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Waldron, Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Mable Foster Minneapolis, Minn.; and a half brother, Edward Munger (should be Mongan), Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Alton, who was fatally injured in a automobile accident near Dickyville eight years ago.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Newcomber funeral home, brodhead, the Rev. J. C. Robertson, Pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery.
