Joseph Henry Zerbe, son of Thomas, was born March 19, 1870 in LowerMahanoy Township, and obtained his early education in the public schoolsthere. Later he attended the academy at Elizabethville, in DauphinCounty. At the age of 18 years he took up telegraphy, which he learnedat Paxton, and he was soon given a station at Mahantango, where heremained for eight years, being transferred thence to Dalmatia(Georgetown), in his native county, where he still remains. This is onthe Northern Central road. Mr. Zerbe is the oldest employee of hiscompany at that point. He has become thoroughly identified with theaffairs of the locality since settling there, and has served six years asa school director, acting also as secretary of the board. His politicalsympathies are with the Republican party, in which he is a zealousworker, has been committeeman of his township for two years, and has beenchosen delegate to various county conventions. Fraternally he holdsmembership in Millersburg Lodge, No. 364, F & A.M.; in Commandery No.364, Knights of Malta: in Council No. 854, Jr. O.U.A M. of Dalmatia; andDivision No. 24, of the Telegraphers Union, with headquarters atWilliamsport.
