Floyd's History of Northumberland County pp 563-587) (111(11)), ' 'John W.Zerbe, son of Thomas, was born Feb. 16, 1864, in Lower Mahanoy Township,and received his education in the public schools of the home locality.While yet at home he began to work in the mines, continuing thus until hewas in his 28th year, when he was given a position in the policedepartment of Shamokin, and he remained with that department for 12-1/2years, until appointed to the postmastership in the year 1903. He hasproved a capable and faithful official and has given general satisfactionin the office. His standing in the borough, both personally and aspublic servant, is unquestionably good. Fraternally he unites with theP.O.S. of A. and the Knights of Malta, and in church connection he is aLutheran. In 1886 Mr. Zerbe married Clara Kerkam, daughter of Wilhelmand Elizabeth Kerkam, the former a well known business man of Shamokin.They have had three children, but only one survives, May.' ' |
