Floyd's History of Northumberland County (111(13)), ' 'Thomas Zerbe, son ofDaniel, spent all his life in Lower Mahanoy Township. In his earlymanhood he was engaged as a general laborer, but he followed farmingprincipally after commencing on his own account, and about 1852 locatedon the place now occupied by his son Thomas, buying the farm at thattime. In 1857 he built the house still standing on that tract; the barnwas built by his son Thomas in 1870. He was interested in polities,being quite active in the interests or the Republican party in hislocality, and was also zealous in church work, being a Lutheran member ofthe Malta Church, where he is buried. He served as trustee of this churchfor many years, and helped to build it in 1860. He died March 23, 1867,aged 58 years, 2 months, 18 days. His wife, Elizabeth, was a daughter ofMartin Garman, who married a Michael. She died June 27, 1894, aged 78years, 3 months, 10 days. Mr. and Mrs. Zerbe had the followingchildren: Josiah, of Alma, Nebr.; Thomas; Sarah, married to HenryMiller; Rebecca, married to George Heitzman; Benjamin, of Beavertown,Pa.; Catharine, married to Elias Paul; and Elias S., of Altoona, Pa.'
