[Martin Zerbe descendants.FTW] Blue Book p. 312: Jonathan, b. in Washington Township, Schuylkill County,December 31, 1819, and died at his home in Cedar County, Iowa, February25, 1903. He was married to Catharine Emerich, June 15, 1846, and on theday of their marriage they set out for Ohio. A Mechanicsville, CedarCounty, newspaper man, says: ' 'He came to Iowa in the Spring of 1865 andresided in that county since.' ' He had thirteen children, four boys,Henry, Jacob, Jonathan and Solomon, and nine girls, all of whom areliving. He had ninety-six grandchildren and forty-one greatgrandchildren, making a total of one hundred and fifty directdescendants. He was eighty-three years of age.[v13t3696.FTW] Schuylkill Blue Book p. 312 says he had 9 daughters in addition to thelisted sons. According to Ralph Schwalm (quoted in source 104), ' 'In July 1853 Jonathan bought 16 acres 80 perches in Wayne Township (nowin Washington Township) from Paul Lengel and his wife Maria. Jonathansold this to Jacob Hains of Tremont Township on March 6, 1865. Hainsowned this until 1869 when the Sheriff sold it to Levi Miller as theresult of a lawsuit. 'Jonathan Zerbe vs. Jacob Hains.' ' In 1870 Millersold it to Israel Herring, who died a few years later. This is shown asthe ' 'I. Herring Est.' ' on the 1875 map, and is marked in red.' ' ' 'In that deed his residence is still given as Washington Township. Heapparently left soon after selling this, for on August 31st of the sameyear he and Catherine, along with some others gave power of attorney toConrad Richards of Washington Township to settle their interest in theestate of John William Emrich, Catherine's father. On that date, theirresidence was given as Cedar County, Iowa. The others who signed thiswere Henry Emrich and his wife, Mary and Lydia Richards (Reichert) andher husband Josiah (or Joseph). Henry and Lydia were also children ofJohn William Emrich.' ' |
