DAR Miss Adele Ludlow. DAR ID Number: 105391 Born in Monroe, Wis. Descendant of Capt. Nathaniel Bancroft, as follows: 1. Calvin Ludlow (1827-84) m. 1854 Lucinda Bancroft (b. 1832). 2. Harvey Bancroft (1800-86) m. 1824 Lydia Akerly (1805-43). 3. Nathaniel Bancroft, Jr. (b. 1773), m. 1796 Thankful Pratt (1771-1830). 4. Nathaniel Bancroft m. 1772 Sarah Bancroft (1755-98). Nathaniel Bancroft (1748-1805) commanded a company from Lynn, Mass., at the Lexington Alarm. He was born and died in Reading, Mass. #4 should be Thomas. Both men severed at the Lexington Alarm. Adele's widowed mother lived with her. It is assumed her mother knew who her grand-father was and that her great-grandfather had been in the Rev. war. We are not sure where the error in Thomas vs. Nathaniel originated from. I would think Adele's mother would have known the maiden name of her Grandmother. Since no death date is listed for Lucinda, she must have still been alive when her daughter filed her application. If not, there would have been plenty of records available for Adelle to look at, her father's death certificate and/or any of his 4 marriage certificates. She may have also had the family bible as I would think that upon the death of Caroline, Caroline would have passed that to he sister. No other children of Harvey appear to be alive when Caroline dies. Therefor, I am certiain that her great-grandmother was in fact Thankful Pratt, not Thankfull Mason are other researchers would suggest. 1855 WI state census shows Calvin and Lucinda with 1 daughter. 1905 - Janesville, Rock, Wisconsin, merchant 1910 - Janesville, Rock, Wisconsin, sales lady, ladies furnishings 1920 - Spokane, Spokane, Washington b. Wis, mother b. NY. father b. VT. The age appears to read 35 but I think it really reads 85. It also reads she is a sales lady, 85 would be a little old to be still workig. She is a lodger. Per Edson's obit, she is the only sibling alive at the time of his death (1915) and is living in Spokane. |
