[Martin Zerbe descendants.FTW] Schuylkill Blue Book says he was doubtless a son of John George (as ifthere was no written source). Thomas Monigold (Thomas Zerbe's great great grandson, source 118) wrote:' 'As an adult, I went to court and acquired title to the original remnantof property owned by Thomas Zerbe. I held it for a few years andeventually sold it to the adjoining farmer for enough money to buy mywife a new sewing machine (probably back in the 1960's). My grandfather,Maggie's son, Thomas E. Monigold, knew Thomas Zerbe. He said that peoplecalled Thomas Zerbe 'The Colonel' but didn't know why.' ' Per Thomas Monigold (118(3)), his obituary in the January 21, 1893 issueof the Orangeville, IL Courier, states: ' 'He came to Illinois about 50years ago and was one of the oldest settlers of Stephenson Co. He farmedabout 3 miles east of Orangeville, and then moved to Oneco, IL. He leftone son and 2 daughters: Mrs. Susan Greenwalt and Mrs. MargaretMonigold Roehl.' ' |
